Fun Fact: Ashley used to be a patient here at Kumeu Dental, so we absolutely love hat she has come full circle back to us. Maybe, she can inspire more of our patients to pick a career in Dentistry!

Dr. Nash explains about Implants

60-year-old male patient came to Kumeu dental and the following was the process of implant placement.

PROBLEM : Unsavable damaged lower molar tooth

TREATMENT : Dr. Nash was able to restore the function and aesthetics of the tooth while also preventing bone loss by using an implant.

Stage 1: Damaged infected tooth extracted

Stage 2: Implant placement

Stage 3: Healing check is done after 1 week of implant placement

Stage 4: Final new crown placed 4 months later

Dental implants are a replacement root with a crown placed on top. Implants are used to replace one or more teeth. They are also used to hold dentures in place.

Dental Implants, compared to other replacement options like dental bridges or conventional dentures, offer you the closest replica of your natural tooth in terms of look and function.

Dental Implants main advantages are the ability to preserve your natural jaw bone from continuous resorption after the loss of natural teeth, the ability to floss around them, no tooth preparation is required of adjacent teeth and strong and stable long term tooth replacement if you take good regular care of it through proper daily oral hygiene, regular dental hygiene maintenance visits, regular dental check-ups and managing damaging habits like excessive clenching and grinding.

In your 1st consultation visit, Dr. Nash will go through a comprehensive medical history and dental examination to determine how implants can help you achieve long term healthy and functional smile.

Next step is the digital implant planning, Dr. Nash uses the latest and safest in digital technology and 3D imaging to digitally plan the position of implants BEFORE surgery. Based on the digital treatment plan we then generate an implant placement guide that is extremely accurate which will be used to place the implant in the most accurate 3D position for long term aesthetics and function.

Dr. Nash will assess if bone and/or gum grafting are needed as part of building a strong foundation around your implant to extend the life of your implants and restorations.

Once planned, getting a dental implant is basically a two-step process.

The first step is the implant placement where the titanium implant is surgically placed with the use of the digital placement guide and left to fuse with the jawbone. The second step is the implant restoration, where the replica tooth, crown or denture is fitted on top of the implant after full healing or integration of the implant, usually within 4 months after implant placement.

Dr. Nash is a member of The International Congress of Oral Implantologists (ICOI).

High quality training coupled with the latest in technology can restore your healthy smile for years to come and we are happy to help you in this journey.
