Meet Our Team
Clinical Team
Paul is the longest-serving member of the Kumeu dental team that’s why he nearly looks like the oldest person there!!!
He was born and raised in the North East of England and then
moved on to Manchester University where he
completed his dental degree and graduate program.
He then got itchy feet and decided to travel the world. The backpacking trip lasted a while and took in some cool places but nothing prepared him for falling head over heels in love. The love affair has lasted twenty-six years , produced three beautiful children and confirmed New Zealand is the best place on the planet. He really loves what he does, yes people think that’s weird but there is no mistaking his passion and enthusiasm for what he does.
He started Kumeu Dental when it was a small single chair surgery and guided it to the multi-discipline, multi chair surgery it is today.
He has a special interest in orthodontics and cosmetic dentistry and has undertaken a huge amount of postgraduate courses to develop his skills and knowledge to give his patients the smile they want.
The team at Kumeu Dental reflects his values and beliefs and you will struggle to find a friendlier, more committed team.
Outside of the surgery, Paul is a long-suffering Newcastle United supporter but on a happier note likes a bit of snowboarding which helps him to forget that.

Her focus is on preventative dentistry and she is committed to working with you to create a plan tailored to your needs.
During her formal training, Alya was head dental representative for the student council and obtained multiple awards for academic excellence as well as ranking among the top students of her cohort. As part of her ongoing education, she has pursued a post-graduate diploma in Dental Implants with the Cambridge Academy of Dental Implantology.
Alya prides herself on the long-term relationships she builds with the people who put their trust in her, and this privileged responsibility to look after their health is what she finds most rewarding.

John has been working alongside Paul at Kumeu Dental for over 20 years, experiencing so many changes in Kumeu, the growth of The Practice, and in Dentistry itself.
John qualified in 1986, after 5 years in the Dental School at The University of Newcastle upon Tyne in the UK – Coincidentally Paul’s hometown!
He has spent most of his working life in New Zealand and has embraced the multitude of advances in his profession, whilst still drawing on his depth of experience to set his patients at ease, and to focus on their individual needs and concerns.
John loves the variety of general practice, and especially enjoys the broad spectrum of people and their dental needs that Kumeu has to offer. Many of John’s long-term patients had previous experiences which led to anxiety and lack of dental care for many years, resulting in sometimes being too embarrassed or upset to even consider seeing a dentist.
The extensive dental problems, and potential costs, that this can create can all be overcome, and John’s caring and relaxed approach has led to many happy outcomes for patients who are now proud of what they have been able to achieve, and are relaxed, regular, welcome visitors to us, with confidence in their appearance, their smiles and their treatment.
Outside the practice, John has always loved outdoor pursuits – sailing, cycling, skiing, diving, and exploring New Zealand’s beautiful environment. His partner works in a Specialist Practice and keeps him on his toes and very happy! Between their four children, and the constantly expanding number of pets, the time left for outdoor pursuits is diminishing fast. A nice evening rustling up great food and relaxing at home is the perfect way to end a busy day in Kumeu!
I’m very grateful to be part of our happy dedicated team here at Kumeu Dental practicing modern dentistry in a stylish well-equipped surgery that also happens to be extremely close to my home here at Muriwai Beach.
I enjoy doing all aspects of Dentistry, finding the beautiful transformations in people’s smiles extremely rewarding with the Cosmetic Dentistry that I do and I also have a particular skill in the extraction of difficult teeth when required, including the safe removal of impacted wisdom teeth under intravenous sedation for our highly anxious patients.
I love music, travel, the beach and of course my beautiful family.
